Hannah and I began this journey with the LGBTQ+ rainbow flag. She designed a pair of beautiful watercolor earrings for our old shop, Ellington and Rose, and as they kept selling, we wondered if we should expand to other flags which led to other Pride and Ally wear, which led to the shops we have now- Because I’m Proud Studio and The Pronoun Studio.

So, how important is having your own flag? If this is a question, then my answer would be, “how important is it to feel like you belong, that you have a connection to folks like you, that there is a way to feel safe and accepted just as you are, no matter who you love?” As a straight, cisgender woman whose pronouns are she/her, I’m not sure I’m really qualified to give an opinion, but I do know what it means to feel belonging and acceptance. If flags are one small way to honor a group of people who face discrimination and dismissal based on sexual orientation and help them feel loved and cherished, then let’s bring on all the flags.

Here’s a great resource if you aren’t familiar:

Until next time,
